Flavorful Homemade Vinaigrette
One fun part of our journey of eating healthier has been creating this flavorful, homemade vinaigrette. It works wells with so many of our salad variations, and it’s also easy to make.
Seriously. It really is easy.
Today I’m just putting the very basic homemade vinaigrette, but you can Really play around with your ingredients and take it in so many directions.
Ingredients
Have you looked at the ingredient labels of your favorite dressings? If you haven’t, go grab a bottle out of your fridge.
Go ahead. I’ll wait…..
In just two of our old, store-bought dressings, the ingredients included canola oil, sugar, MSG, soybean oil, corn syrup, artificial flavors, and natural flavors where there’s usually not a whole lot of “natural” going on. So in just those few ingredients you’ve got GMOs, hormone disruptors, brain disruptors + 2 mystery bags where you don’t get to know what’s inside.
Yikes!
As we inched into cleaner brands and learned more about ingredients, we also decided to experiment with simply making our own dressings.
This dressing is easy to make and keep available for any busy family. Since you get to control the ingredients, there are no surprises, And you actually contribute to the process of lowering the toxic load on your body.
Bam!!!
A medium-flavored vinaigrette dressing to enjoy as is or "dress up" for even more flavor.

- Try adding a teaspoon of freshly minced or dried basil, parsley, oregano or all three combined.
- Add 1 teaspoon of garlic powder or 1 small minced clove of garlic.
- Consider adding a Tablespoon of lemon juice.
- A pinch of salt or pepper is basically 1/16 Teaspoon or literally the small amount you can pinch between a finger and thumb.
Don’t you just love how you have control of making such a simple change that takes about 5 minutes and can add to the healthy choices you are making.
My Favorite Ingredient Choices
I love tweaking this recipe, and maybe you will too. There’s quite a bit of room to adjust your ingredients to fit your preferences and vary your flavor significantly. Some considerations include:
- apple cider vinegar (a stronger flavor) and coconut vinegar (a mild flavor) are reported to both be alkanizing
- real salt (fine) that hasn’t been processed and still has health-supporting trace minerals that can be ordered online or purchased at your local grocery store
- fresh herbs are definitely a punch of flavor, and I highly recommend you try growing your own and creating your own flavorful combinations.
This homemade vinaigrette goes great on your favorite tossed salad, sliced tomato wedges, or sliced avocado, and you skip out on those ingredients that harm your gut and your brain.
